Jules Ford

Welcome to this fortnights, Author of the Week, Jules Ford. Jules is an author with several books under her belt and I'm proud to call her a friend! Taking time from her busy schedule, Jules was kind enough to take time out to answer these questions! And we got nosey!

Hi Jules, can you give us a brief intro to yourself!

Hi Elizabeth, as you well know, I'm Jules Ford, I'm the proud writer of three books, one a co-authored book and two of my own, forming the Speed Demons series.

Can you tell us what books you have released, Jules?

Sure Elizabeth...

Tyrants Redemption, co-author with Raven Dark

Speed Demons MC.

Bowie - book one

Cash - Book two.

Please tell us some more about yourself, as we're all nosey!

I live just outside London. I have a daughter who is 14 going 25. My free time is spent reading and watching movies, but I’m also often out and about with the kiddo. We love wandering around London, theme parks and pub lunches.

Jules, what got you into writing and do you hold another job as well?

Writing is my only job. I got into it by accident, really. I was helping a lot of authors with alpha/ beta reading. Then I got into editing from there. I was then asked to co-write with another author. While writing that book, the idea for the Speed Demons came to me. It went from there.

Good thing you stumbled into it, the MC genre would have had a sincere loss without your books. What’s the main thing you love and hate about writing?

I love when it’s all flowing nicely. There’s no feeling like it when the words spill from your fingertips. I hate the opposite, when it’s not flowing.

So I think I know the answer, but, who is the best character you’ve ever written, and why?

I love all my characters in different ways. My side characters are as important to me as the main ones, and readers seem to respond to them well too. I guess I have a soft spot for Sunny. I based her on my daughter when she was younger.

Who’s the character who gave you nightmares?

Cash… all day long. He’s an asshole, but I guess he’s growing all the time, so he may end up my favourite by the end of the series. Who knows!

I guessed it was Cash! What is next on your list to write/publish?

Atlas is my current WIP. I’m loving his book.

Who encouraged you the most to write?

Elizabeth N Harris. My biggest cheerleader and the most supportive person, even when she shouts at me, it’s from a place of love. LOL

This Elizabeth person sounds terrible! Lol. Which author would you like to coauthor a book with and why?

I’m going to say Kristen Ashley… love her books.

So this is a hard question! What’s your favourite genre?

MC, all day long, but I read most things.

Do you listen to music when you write?

Nope… I need complete silence, but I tend to listen to music before and after I write as it does inspire me.

If you could interview anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Anne Boleyn, but that won’t happen. LOL

Now I know you pretty well, so dig deep Jules, tell me a secret no one knows!

My degree is in history! I’m obsessed! I inhale history books and documentaries. I love physics too and love learning about the universe and our place in it. I also love reality TV, so one minute I’ll be reading about quantum physics, the next I’ll be watching the Real Housewives. Weird, I know, but it works for me.

Smartass, I didn't know that lol. Tell me what your main protagonist and antagonist would say about you!

Protagonists would say that I’m a hard worker and I’m determined. If I say I’m going to do something, I’ll do it to the detriment of everything else. I also have a great sense of humour and I’m pretty quick with the one-liners. Antagonists would say that I’m very blinkered in my opinions sometimes. If I don’t like a person, I won’t pretend to. Everything I feel is written all over my face. I don’t have a filter at all. Some people see that as being mean or bitchy… not that I care. I’m too old to play games. LOL Luckily, I like most people 😀

You’ve been given the chance to have a home anywhere in the world where you can write! Where and what would you pick? A cabin in the woods? A ski lodge?

I would love to live in a cottage on the Devon/Cornwall coast in Southern England, where I can look out at the sea from my window.

What is the funniest thing you ever heard and has it influenced you?

I love satire comedy, and I also love old English comedy shows like Absolutely Fabulous, Vicar of Dibley and Gavin and Stacey. More recently, I’ve got more into comedy performers like Jack Whitehall and John Bishop. I tend to put humour into my books and those shows definitely influenced me.

Quick fire round, how quick can you go!

Favourite group Loads… can’t choose. Depends on my mood.

Favourite colour - Black

Favourite food - Roast beef

Favourite film - Shawshank Redemption

Favourite actor/actress - Emma Thompson.

Favourite season - Winter

Finally, any words of advice?

Whatever you want to do, just try. You only live once.
